Staurolite Fairy Cross - Keivy Mountains, Russia

A rare Staurolite "Fairy Cross" from the Kola Peninsula, on mica schist matrix. Specimen shows a 90 degree, Roman cross, sitting cleanly on the muscovite mica soft layers.

Geology & History: This remarkable specimen is a natural geological marvel that originated 2.7 billion years ago in the ancient ocean basins of the Kola Peninsula. Born from aluminum-rich mud that compressed into sedimentary shale, the rock was pushed deep into the Earth’s crust during a massive continental collision in northwestern Russia. Under intense metamorphic pressure, the original minerals re-formed into a shimmering mica background. Directly inside this matrix, a rare crystallographic phenomenon called "penetration twinning" occurred: two distinct staurolite crystals grew from the exact same spot, sharing an atomic plane to form a perfect, intersecting 90-degree cross. Because the dark staurolite is physically tougher than the surrounding mica, it preserved its sharp geometric shape over billions of years before being unearthed in the sub-arctic Keivy Mountains.

Metaphysical Properties: Steeped in ancient lore, Staurolite has long been cherished as the "Fairy Cross," said to be formed from the crystallized tears shed by fairies upon hearing tidings of Christ's crucifixion - an origin story that infuses the stone with a legacy of magic, comfort, and divine protection. An exceptional tool for spiritual alignment, this natural crystal strongly resonates with the Root Chakra to provide deep grounding, stability, and security, making it a highly auspicious and powerful birthstone for the zodiac sign of Pisces.

Please Note: This is a natural unique specimen and may have its own small imperfections such as inclusions, pits or markings within the crystal itself - this is part of its natural beauty and as nature intended.
