The Seven Chakras

A Brief Introduction & Overview

Chakras are the seven main energy centres in the body, spinning, invisible yet powerful and each associated with different physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being - they run along the spine and are believed to influence our overall well-being. These spinning wheels of energy - Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown, govern our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being and when balanced, they promote health and vitality, but if imbalanced they can manifest as physical ailments, emotional instability, and mental distress. The word "chakra" comes from Sanskrit, meaning "wheel" or "disk," representing their circular, spinning nature.

Key Characteristics:

1. Location: The seven main chakras run along your spine.

2. Function: Each governs a specific body system and life areas.

3. Balance: When open and balanced, energy flows freely.

4. Blockages: When blocked, you may experience physical or emotional symptoms.

5. Colours: Each chakra is associated with a specific colour and vibration.

The Seven Chakra’s are; 

Root Chakra aka Muladhara - 1^st Chakra

Represents safety, security and grounding.

Location; Base of Spine (Tail-bone)

Colour; Red (secondary colour - Black)

Element; Earth

Associated Body Parts: Legs, feet, ankles, knees, large intestine, hips, lower spine, lower back, muscular system.

Significance: The Root Chakra governs your sense of safety, security, and stability.

Sacral Chakra aka Svadhisthanan - 2^nd Chakra

Represents creativity, emotional connection and sexuality.

Location: Lower abdomen (just below the navel).

Colour: Orange

Element: Water

Associated Body Parts: Reproductive organs, lower back, kidneys, bladder, hips.

Significance: The Sacral Chakra governs your ability to enjoy life and connect with others.

Solar Plexus Chakra aka  Manipura – 3^rd Chakra

Location: Upper abdomen/stomach area

Significance: The Solar Plexus governs self-esteem, confidence, and the ability to take action.
