Geology & History: Named in 1908 after the mine it was discovered in, The Rosas Mine in Sardinia, Italy by Domenico Lovisato. Rosasite is a rare Copper zinc carbonate hydroxide mineral that crystallizes in the form of spheres, botryoidal, and rarely, tiny crystals over matrix. This unusual mineral usually forms on Red Limonite and is most often blue in colour although it can also be seen as green - as is the case with the specimen listed here. It is often collected for its rarity.
