Rhodochrosite Tumblestone

Rhodochrosite is a rare manganese carbonate, typically found associated with manganese ores. It can form as stalactites and when cut display concentric bands or swirls of lighter material. It is commonly a rose-red colour but can present in shades of pink to light brown. It is a rare mineral that is only found in a small number of locations worldwide but is believed to have been first discovered in 1813 by J.F.L. Haussmann in silver mines in Romania, who named it after the Greek word meaning “rose colour”. It is also known as Inca Rose or Raspberry Spar Stone.

Rhodochrosite is a relatively soft stone and should be treated with care.
