Northosite Tumblestone
Northosite tumblestones, historically and geologically known as anorthosite, are unique, highly grounding rocks composed almost entirely of plagioclase feldspar and visually characterised by a soft grey and black colouration. Depending on the specific calcium-to-sodium ratio in the feldspar, it can display a striking optical flash or flash patterns similar to labradorite (a phenomenon known as labradorescence).
Interestingly, while it is a relatively scarce gem material on Earth, anorthosite makes up a massive portion of the Moon's crust and was prominently brought back in rock samples by Apollo astronauts. Our current stock originates from the Damiao anorthosite complex, located in Hebei Province, NE China.
Geology: Over 1 billion years ago, this unique stone began as a molten magma chamber within the Earth's crust. As the magma slowly cooled, crystals of plagioclase feldspar began to grow and because these crystals were lighter than the surrounding liquid, they floated to the top of the chamber, tightly packing together to form an almost pure feldspar rock.
The cooling process took thousands of years and this extreme slowness allowed the minerals to separate internally into microscopic, alternating layers. When light hits these ancient, hidden layers today, it creates the stone’s signature, mysterious optical flash!
Metaphysical Properties: Known as the "Mystery Stone," Northosite is a powerful talisman for times of major transition, uncertainty, or personal evolution. Because it formed deep within the ancient crust of the Earth and covers a massive portion of the Moon, it holds a rare, dual cosmic and terrestrial frequency. It provides deep emotional stability, helping anchor your energy, dispelling deep-seated insecurities while quietly rebuilding self-worth and raw confidence. It is also believed to stimulate creativity and bring about "sudden understanding" or rapid flashes of mental awareness.
Chakra: Root & Third Eye
Birthsign: Cancer & Capricorn
You will receive one handpicked stone measuring approx. 20-30mm.
**Please Note: These are natural stones and each is unique but may have its own small imperfections such as inclusions, pits or markings within the crystal itself - this is part of their natural beauty and as nature intended. Tumbling these stones may polish off some of these imperfections but not always all of them.**
