Hackmanite Specimen

A beautiful rare, raw Hackmanite specimen.

Origin: Unnamed Richterite Occurrence, Badakhshan, Afghanistan. 

Geology: Hackmanite is a sulphur chloric aluminium silicate, primarily found in alkaline, igneous rocks and is a rare variety of the sodalite group of minerals. Hackmanite has tenebrescent properties, also known as reversible photochromism, and this is the ability of minerals to change colour when exposed to sunlight or UV light. The effect can be repeated indefinitely, but is destroyed by heating.  The colour change takes time in sunlight but is much quicker under a UV torch. 

Please note that when the specimen arrives with you, due to the darkness of being in transit the colour may be slightly paler than expected but upon exposure to sunlight this will change.
