Striped flint (aka Banded Flint, Polish Flint) is often mistaken for petrified wood or agate, and is one of the most beautiful, captivating and culturally significant varieties of flint in the world. It is instantly recognizable by its swirling bands of dark and light hues of brown, cappuccino, cream, tan and grey and unlike the more common flint varieties, found throughout Europe, Polish striped flint occurs in only a few small regions, adding to its rarity. It is known locally as "Krzemień pasiasty" and formed during the Upper Jurassic (Oxfordian) period, roughly 160 million years ago. With its dramatic patterns and colours it is one of natures triumphs and is a visual piece of art, often prized in jewellery making.

It is often referred to as "Polish Diamond" and/or "Stone of Optimism" as it is believed to promote energy, vitality and inspiration whilst calming the emotions.
