Grandidierite Tumblestone

Grandidierite is an extremely rare mineral that was first discovered in 1902 in southern Madagascar. The mineral was named in honor of French explorer Alfred Grandidier (1836–1912). It is an iron magnesium silicate mineral that appears in orthorhombic formations. Its rarity is due to the specific conditions required for Grandidierite’s formation which are exceptionally uncommon and include the presence of boron, iron, and magnesium within a stable environment that supports crystal growth over long periods.
